MUSCAT: Salalah, as lush as a dreamland can be, is one of the best destinations to visit in Oman. Due to its distance from the majority of Oman’s main tourist attractions, Salalah is sometimes disregarded by travellers.

Compared to the rest of the country, it has a totally different atmosphere. You can’t claim to have seen all of Oman without going to Salalah, which is frequently compared to India’s lush state of Kerala. And despite the common opinion to avoid Salalah during rains, you should do the exact opposite! The area completely transforms into a rainforest paradise from June to August, complete with streams and waterfalls.

What can you do in Salalah? There are abundant options for everyone! Curious-minded can visit the Frankincense Land Museum where you’ll learn all about Oman’s iconic frankincense industry. In addition, you may explore the old market in Al Husn Souq, situated close to Haffa Beach and don’t miss out on the stunning Qaboos Palace, which bears the name of King Sultan Qaboos. If you’re lucky, the Khareef Festival, which takes place every summer to celebrate the monsoon, will provide you with the chance to immerse yourself in a different culture.
