MUSCAT : Masirah Island is witnessing an increase in the number of tourists, thanks to its beautiful landscape. Located in the southeast of the Sultanate and administratively belonging to the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah, Masirah Island is the largest Omani island and is a prominent landmark in the middle of the sea, and looks like a jewel afloat on the blue waters. 


One is sure to be amazed by the beauty of the picturesque nature, diverse environment, and marine life. It houses an arable plain environment, with virgin lands in which herbs grow during rains, as well as several mountains spread on top of Halaf, Rasya, Al-Aijah, and other places, resulting in a moderate throughout the year. Its beaches provide an unparalleled opportunity to see groups of rare sea turtles laying their eggs, which is what attracts tourists the most. to the island. 


The sport of windsurfing on Masirah Island is what most attracts the attention of foreign tourists, as well as paragliding competitions, making it one of the best destinations for lovers of marine sports, especially diving, jet skiing and water skiing.


Masirah Island can be reached from Muscat (about 460 km), passing through the Niyabat of Sinaw of the Wilayat of Mudhaibi towards the road leading to Duqm and turning left at the roundabout leading to the centre of the city of Hajj of the Wilayat of Mahut and then to the port of Shana. It can also be reached from the Wilayat of Sur in the Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah. In the direction of Niyabat Al-Ashkharah and from there to the village of Al-Najda in the Wilayat of Mahut and then to the port of Shanna. There is also a road from Umm Al-Zamayem on the Muscat Salalah road with a length of 100 km to the Al-Juba roundabout, leading to Hajj in the Wilayat of Mahut and 86 km to the port of Shanna, in addition to the road coming from the Wilayat of Haima towards Duqm and then to Wilayat Mahout.
