Oman chairs 15th meeting of GCC Permanent Committee for Meteorology and Climate

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority, hosts the 15th meeting of the Permanent Committee for Meteorology and Climate of the Gulf Cooperation Council (on October 24 and 25), with the participation of heads and officials of meteorological facilities in the GCC countries

Muscat: Over the two days, the meeting will discuss strategic plans for cooperation and joint work in the field of meteorology and climate; cooperation between the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the organization; and the weather radar network and the seismic monitoring network between the GCC countries.

It will focus on the issue of dust in the GCC countries, and air quality standards; the significance of third generation satellites; Green Middle East Initiative; Memorandum of Understanding between the General Secretariat and the China Meteorological Administration; international cooperation and the unified meteorological law for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries; and the Gulf climatic statistics project.
The Committee aims to establish joint connectivity of the infrastructure in the GCC countries, which ignites monitoring stations and weather radars through the suspension of quality learning and benefits from the programs of the World Meteorological Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It also aims to propose a recommendation to develop cooperation and reach integration in meteorological facilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the system of cooperation and joint work to ensure the provision of data and meteorological services at the highest levels, develop the legislative framework and institutional performance of meteorological facilities in the GCC countries; and strengthen cooperation in the field of capacity building and development and scientific research.
