MUSCAT: Fatma Al Nabhani walks tall, literally and figuratively, a giant on Oman’s tennis stage. Fatma isn’t merely one of Oman’s most successful athletes; she is also one of the country’s biggest stars. 

She is the first female professional tennis player from the Middle East and has been competing internationally since she was the mere age of 9. 

The Fatma Al Nabhani of now had travelled the world, won many titles, rubbed shoulders with celebrities from other walks of life and most importantly she was assured of her place among the legends of Omani sports, even if she were to retire the same day. It reflected in the calm and candour with which she handled questions from audience at the official launch of HerStory presented by The Arabian Stories on tackling expectations at every step of her now fabled career. 

“Every time I go on to the court people expect me to win. It is tough and I can’t win always but I still have to go out there and give my best. If you think about the expectations then there will be extra pressure. I believe in performing and the results follow and that keeps everyone happy,” she said on managing success. 

Fatma Al Nabhani was honoured with HerStory’s Sports Woman Award held at Grand Hyatt Muscat. She received her award from Her Highness Sayyida Mayya Al Said, the Patron of HerStory.
