MUSCAT : Al-Aija Fort is one of the historical monuments located in the center of the coastal village of Al-Aija, surrounded by houses on each side. It was built in the form of a square in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries during the reign of Sayyid Faisal bin Turki, and it was built by Sheik Abdullah bin Salem Al Hamouda.
The fort consists of has two floors, and it has one entrance and four towers. It also has some collectibles, like swords, rifles, and heritage cannons. It was previously used for village defense and for housing, but now it is used for tourism. The Ministry of Heritage and Culture has restored it, and used mud, gravel, and plaster to build it.
