MUSCAT : With a total length of about 2450 meters, Falaj Al-Khatameen in the Niyabat of Birkat al-Muz in the state of Nizwa, is known for its abundant flow throughout the year, especially after the rains. The falaj is characterized by the passage of its canal inside the fort of Beit al-Rudaida, which was built during the reign of the Ya’ariba during the period from 1649-1711.

This falaj was included among the 5 Omani falajs on the World Heritage List in 2006 because of its unique water system and as one of the oldest exhibits of irrigation engineering, dating back more than 2000 years. The stream of Falaj Al-Khatameen is divided into 3 equal sections at the entrance of the town, one of which irrigates the pastures of the people, while the other two sections return to converge in one stream, and they are dedicated to irrigating agricultural lands considered the property of the country.
