MUSCAT: There is no mechanism changes in operation of speed cameras in Oman, Royal Oman Police (ROP) has tweeted.

On Wednesday, an English daily in Oman had reported that the tolerance level for speeding has been removed from some speed cameras in Oman.

However, the ROP’s traffic department has tweeted on it official twitter handle that “there is no mechanism change in operations of speed cameras. The ROP is calling on everyone to adhere to the posted speed limit on the roads.”

The English daily reported that “the grace speed limit is 15 km/hr on each road from the defined speed limits on that road. It depends sometimes on the location, radar device and the vehicle gauge as well. The radar can flash even if the speed is less than 15 kilometres in areas that are prone to road accidents.”

Oman’s official statistics reveal that between November 2017 and 2018, there was a 48.3 per cent drop in accidents. In 2017, 3,845 accidents took place, leading to 3,134 injuries and 640 deaths.
