Planning to visit Jabal Akhdar in future? You will have to pay entrance fees

You will be charged an entry fee to visit Jabal Akhdar natual reserve.

MUSCAT: Are you planning to visit Jabal Akhdar anytime in future?  Well, you will soon have to pay an entrance fee before driving to Oman’s most picturesque destination.  

According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) announced on Sunday, a visitor will be charged an entry fee to visit Jabal Akhdar natual reserve. 

Here are the fees as stipulated by MECA for visiting Jabal Akhdar natural reserve
1. Omani adult: OMR 1
2. Expatriate adult: OMR 5
3. Overnight stay for Omanis: OMR 5
4. Overnight stay for Expats: OMR 10
5. Omani children under 16-years (Daytime): 100bz
6. Expat children under 16-years (Daytime): OMR 1
7. Omani children (Overnight): OMR 1
8. Expat children (Overnight): OMR 5

The fees are not applicable to members of the army, government officials, and academic researchers during official duty, or for residents of the reserve and their first-degree relatives.

Popularly known as Green Mountain, the temperature of Jabal Akdhar drops during winter to below zero Celsius, with snow falling at times, and rise in summer to 22 degrees Celsius. Due to its location and unique weather, the Green Mountain produces a variety of fruits, such as apricots, plums, figs, grapes, apples and pears, as well as almonds, walnuts and saffron. The pomegranate that grows here is classified among the finest of its kind in the world

As per the ministerial decision, violating the rules including polluting the area is punishable by a fine of at least OMR 50 and not more than OMR 200. 

“Entering the reserve outside the visiting hours, camping without authorisation, violating behavior guidelines inside the reserve, which are advertised clearly by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, attempting to hunt or collect wildlife or cultural relics or any other part of the reserve, starting a fire without authorization, and violating the reserve with pollutants or garbage or using firearms inside are all acts punishable by a fine of at least OMR50 and no more than OMR200 fine,” the statement added.
