MUSCAT:The volatile air traffic situation in the region has not affected the Omani air space, the country’s aviation authority has confirmed.

In a statement issued, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) has confirmed that Oman’s airspace is safe. However, PACA is continuously monitoring the air traffic situation in the region especially those flights to the Northern parts.

“The Air Traffic Emergency Management Team at the Authority is following the development of air traffic in the Omani airspace, which is proceeding normally in the light of the events affecting some of the flight routes to the north,” the statement said.

On Friday, some airlines rerouted flights to avoid airspace near the Strait of Hormuz after Iran shot down a U.S. military surveillance drone there and American aviation officials warned that commercial jetliners could be mistakenly attacked amid tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Local long-haul carriers Emirates and Etihad were among those that changed flight routes in an area that is home to major hubs of global air travel.
