MUSCAT: In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, India’s budget airline IndiGo has announced that it will operate 97 repatriation flights between Kerala and GCC countries including 10 flights from Oman.

The decision comes after India’s Civil Aviation Ministry approved private carriers to bring back Indians stranded abroad.

Apart from Oman, IndiGo will fly to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait. According to details, the carrier will operate 36 flights to Saudi Arabia, 28 to Qatar and 23 to Kuwait.

According to sources, majority of these flights will be to Kerala.

Currently only Air India and Air India Express are flying across the globe to bring back stranded Indians as part of the Vande Bharat mission.

Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said “We are grateful for the approval to operate flights to four countries to bring back our fellow citizens, who are either stranded due to suspension of operations or have registered to fly back owing to the economic landscape.”
