Kochi: Nivin Pauly starrer Moothon directed by Geetu Mohandas will premiere on September 11 in the Toronto International Film Festival while it will be the opening film of the 21st edition of the Mumbai Film festival (MAMI).

Scripted and directed by Geetu and filmed by renowned cinematographer-director Rajeev Ravi, Moothon also had Anurag Kashyap working on the Hindi dialogues.

Kashyap is also one of the producers of the film. A major portion of the film was shot in Mumbai and the picturesque islands of Lakshadweep as the story “revolves around a child’s search for his elder brother who left the island.

Speaking to The Arabian Stories, about the movie featuring in TIFF and MAMI, Nivin Pauly said: “This came at a time when my state Kerala is going through a crisis but I am extremely delight and honoured to see my film being screened at two of the biggest festivals in the movie world.”

Nivin’s home state Kerala, which is still recovering from the worst deluge in a century last year, 85 people have been killed since last week due to heavy rains and floods. More than two lakh people are in relief camps.

“It’s a moment to celebrate (the honour) but my heart is with my fellow Keralities,” he said. Interestingly, Moothon is the first Malayalam film to be screened at the Mumbai Film Festival. “I always wanted to take my movie to a wider audience and this is indeed special,” he added.
