MUSCAT: Renowned Dubai-based Hustle Entertainment comes to Muscat for the first time, with the launch of Laugh-a-thon – a stand-up comedy event series, that is starting here with Abhishek Upmanyu.

Under the Laugh-a-thon banner, Hustle Entertainment has consistently brought the biggest names in the comedy circuit to Dubai featuring names like Zakir Khan, Kenny Sebastian, Kunal Kamra, Rohan Joshi, Kanan Gill, Biswa Kalyan Rath and Abish Mathew.

Following the tremendous reviews after each successive show, Laugh-a-thon, which is in its third season in Dubai, is now coming to Muscat.

Taking the stage on Thursday for his maiden show in Muscat, Upmanyu – one of India’s finest stand-up comic, writer, and haiku enthusiast, is extremely keen to give the audience an authentic comedy experience by showcasing his rapid, faster-than-light delivery style, unparalleled observation, and a talent for injecting excitement into the banal, through Laugh-a-thon.

The Mumbai-based comedian is ranked highly among the top Indian stand-up comedians after amassing 225,000 followers on Instagram and creating a self-titled YouTube channel with almost 2 million subscribers, featuring videos of his live comedy performances that put a quirky spin on Indian culture.

Amid touring the UK, US, and South East Asia, Upmanyu’s jokes have seasoned consistently, like his personal style, which has grown from “boy next door” to the most “in vogue” Indian comedians. He recently spent his entire summer studying a course in the London Film School.

The ‘say-it-like-it-is’ comedian, who started performing in 2013, can seamlessly weave together relatable topics such as growing up and Indian parenting, and believes that his inspiration for stand-up comedy came from hours spent on YouTube.

“It’s finally paid off, because now I can wake up at 2 p.m. in my office, which is my room, which is also where I sleep. That’s, I think, a major reason for doing stand-up — it doesn’t feel like work,” he says.

He now plans to dazzle the Muscat audiences with his refreshing humor. “I am supremely excited to announce a Middle East tour – specially Muscat for the very first time! One thing I’m looking forward to the most as a performer is entertaining a whole new audience and trying to win them over. I can’t wait!”
