Food safety is top priority: Muscat Municipality

Muscat Municipality has reiterated that it is keeping a tight watch on imported foodstuffs.

Muscat:
Muscat Municipality has reiterated that its top priority is to safeguard public health as the civic body has intensified their checks on restaurants, hotels and cafés. 

However, the Municipality also said that it is keeping a tight watch on imported foodstuffs coming through entry points such as ports and airports. 

In a statement issued, Muscat Municipality said: “Food safety is our top priority. Those foodstuffs that comes from other places are sent to labs where tests are conducted to find out if the food is fit for human consumption. All foodstuff items imported to the Sultanate are inspected thoroughly before being allowed into the market.”

Independent team at Muscat airport 

Muscat Municipality has also formed an independent department at the Muscat International Airport to examine goods entering the country.  “The department checks for expiry dates and the contents list to see if the item is suitable for human consumption and free of substances prohibited in the sultanate,’ the statement added.
